POSITIVE CHANGES Batterer Intervention Program

CASA has been Approved by NC Council for Women in Alexander and Caldwell Counties

Program Length:                26 weeks.  Each session is 1.5 hours in length.

Program Costs/Fees:       Initial Assessment:  $100.00

                                              Class Fee:  $25 per session

                                              Administrative Fee:  $25 every 8 weeks

Counseling and Support Associates, PC utilizes the Emerge Curriculum for the Positive Changes BIP.  The Emerge Curriculum includes in-depth counseling in addition to re-education and skills building.

Groups are available for both men and women.

WHAT IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE?

Domestic violence is the willful intimidation, physical assault, battery, sexual assault, and/or other abusive behavior as part of a systematic pattern of power and control perpetrated by one intimate partner against another. It includes physical violence, sexual violence, threats, and emotional abuse. The frequency and severity of domestic violence can vary dramatically.

DID YOU KNOW?

 • 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner.

 • On a typical day, domestic violence hotlines receive approximately 21,000 calls, approximately 15 calls every minute.

 • Intimate partner violence accounts for 15% of all violent crime

 • Abusers’ access to firearms increases the risk of intimate partner femicide at least five-fold.  When firearms have been used in the most severe abuse incident, the risk increases 41-fold.

 • 72% of all murder-suicides involved an intimate partner; 94% of the victims of these crimes are female.
